What is a Bongwe?
Bongwe (pronounced bong-way) means baboon in the Tumbuka language, spoken in the Eastern Province of Zambia. It is also the logo of our company – Bongwe Safaris.
Who are Bongwe Safaris?
We are a small safari company based in Livingstone, Zambia – home of the Victoria Falls. We are also the founding members of the Conservation and Tourism Society (CATS).
Who are CATS?
CATS are a small non-profit organisation heavily involved in the conservation of wildlife, human/animal conflict mitigation, and community education. CATS also operate several schemes aimed at community upliftment so that the community benefits from the tourism dollar, as opposed to seeing a handful of rich companies reap all the benefits with nothing much left to go around.
So what’s this got to do with NFTs?
CATS are currently funded by WWF (the wildlife charity, not the wrestling folk), and WCP (Wildlife Crime Prevention). Both of these global organisations are very much appreciated, and without their funding, many CATS projects would never have happened.
However, NGO funding comes with several drawbacks. One of the issues is that funding is relatively short term. And while you may get further funding to continue a project, it is never guaranteed.
Luckily for us, Bongwe Safaris has someone on board who not only understands the world of NFTs, but is also a graphic artist. Because of that we decided to try and bring the world of web3 and conservation together. If our project is successful, not only will we be able to fund and sustain CATS projects for the long term, but we will also be able to ensure our NFT investors get value for money.
As far as we can tell, no one in Africa is doing this at the moment. Wouldn’t it be good to be involved in a world’s first?
What is the project?
The Funky Bongwe Conservation Project is a 10,000 NFT collection that is raising money for African wildlife conservation, human/animal conflict mitigation, and bringing people out of poverty. Africa’s 1st large NFT collection whose sole aim is to make people’s and animal’s lives better with a long term outlook that will ensure everyone involved, from elephants and hippos, local villagers, to our NFT investors and community, are all better off than when we started.
We will giveaway plenty of free NFTs and offer once-in-a-lifetime trips to visit us at the Victoria Falls and witness our conservation efforts in action, see the wildlife up close on safari with us, and get involved in the projects that these NFTs will enable and carry forward into the future.
We are not tech-heads, so there is still plenty about this mysterious world of NFTs for us to learn. We would love to build a community of people that not only can advise us as we move forward, but are also passionate about making a difference in the real world.
When does this project get underway?
It has been many months in the creation, setup, and planning of the project. Today is the day we started telling the world about it. We are aware that it will take some time to raise awareness of our project, and we know we have to create some excitement and a buzz around the whole thing.
We are also aware that we will have to spend money on marketing. With that in mind, we have created a very small collection of art, created by our own graphic artist. The aim of this small and exclusive collection of art is to raise marketing funds for main event.
If you want to be involved in a project that has real-world consequences and makes our planet just that little bit better, then please jump on board. It’s going to be a wild ride. We will giveaway plenty of free NFTs and offer once-in-a-lifetime trips to visit us at the Victoria Falls and see your NFT purchases making a real difference to people’s and animal’s lives.
We are at the beginning of our journey. As the project advances, these handful of NFTs will become hotcakes for those lucky few that invested in them. And every purchaser of these NFTs will automatically go onto our whitelist for the main collection.
