The life of Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba is a testimony of his true commitment to the revival of authentic Islam, the religion of Peace and his only ideal was to serve humanity by giving teachings in accordance with the prophetic model. The great teachings of Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba were geared towards the transmission of the very essence of the prophetic message to his generation and to future ones. He devoted his entire life to awaken human consciousness, both among the oppressed and the oppressors.
During his exile in Gabon where he spent some of the most difficult years of his life, he was vulnerable to being afflicted by illnesses, starvation and many life trials. Nevertheless, his connection with Allah (Peace and Blessings upon him) drove him to write poetry in honour of the Greatest of Allah’s Creation, The Beloved Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings upon him). By the blessing of his noble effort, nothing afflicted him and he regained a more powerful inner strength to overcome all of his battles.
This means something very powerful. Millions of mourids, (Sheikh Ahmad Bamba’s disciples) pray his kassaides (poem in arabic), to overcome life tribulations.
For me one of Sheikh Ahmad Bamba’s Kassaide, called As Sindidu has a very special meaning for me. I can honestly say, it’s dearest to me and my heart feels uttermost grateful for being able to get this amazing connection with Sheikh Ahmad Bamba and the Dear Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings upon him) through this beautiful poem.
